Installing an EIE

Important: The following procedure explains how to install a new EIE to an existing CygNet system that does not already include the EIE. This is not the same thing as adding a remote device instance to a Device Definition Service (DDS).

Ordinarily, when you install CygNet for the first time using the CygNetSCADAServicesSetup wizard, you select which EIEs you plan to use and install them during setup. Then every time you update your system by using the CygNet Host Updater utility (CHostUpdater.exe), all of your existing EIEs are updated. However, you might find the need for EIEs that post-date your initial CygNet installation. For instance, you might retire field devices and replace them with new ones or you might acquire new fields with field devices for which you did not anticipate needing EIEs. The following procedure explains how to install new EIEs that post-date your initial setup.

Follow these steps to install a new EIE to a preexisting CygNet system:

Install the driver
Install the editor
Install the device template file (remote devices only)
Add the EIE to the editor

Install a UIS Driver and EIE Editor

Note: The following instructions can be followed for any type of EIE (Communication Device, Remote Device, or Import/Export Device), except for step 3, which applies only to Remote Devices.

1. Install the Driver

The following steps explain how to install the driver component of the EIE.

Important: The EIE might require support files in addition to those mentioned below. Contact CygNet Support for more information.

Copy the new Uis[EIEName]Driver.dll from the source location to the CygNet\Support folder on your host server.
Right-click the .dll.
Click Open with… > Choose default program… > Browse.
Open the Windows\SysWOW64 folder. (Open the Windows\System32 folder on a 32-bit operating system.)
Double-click regsvr32.exe.

Note: Optionally, use the Command Prompt to invoke regsvr32.exe and register the driver file.

The driver DLL is now installed and registered. Repeat the steps above for each new EIE.

2. Install the Editor

The following steps explain how to install the editor component of the EIE.

Important: The EIE might require support files in addition to those mentioned below. Contact CygNet Support for more information.

Copy the new CxDds[EIEName]Editors.dll from the source location to the CygNet\Support folder on your host server.
Right-click the .dll.
Click Open with… > Choose default program… > Browse.
Open the Windows\SysWOW64 folder. (Open the Windows\System32 folder on a 32-bit operating system.)
Double-click regsvr32.exe.
Open CygNet Explorer.
Click APPS (Application Blob Service) in the service hierarchy.
Right-click in the white space of the APPS pane, then click New.
Select SUPPORT from the combo box.
Open the CygNet\Support folder.
Select CxDds[EIEName]Editors.dll, then click Upload.
Return to CygNet Explorer.
Right-click in the white space of your APPS pane, then click New.
Select SUPPORT from the list box.
Open the CygNet\Support folder.
Select CxDds[EIEName]Editors.rsp, then click Upload. The .rsp lists all required files for the EIE editor.
Return to CygNet Explorer.
Go to the APPS pane and highlight CxDdsEditors.rsq.
Right-click on CxDdsEditors.rsq, then click Download File….
Select a download location, then click OK.
Open the CxDdsEditors.rsq file and add a line that includes the name of the .rsp file for the new editor:

[SUPPORT]..\SUPPORT\CxDds[EIEName]Editors.rsp

Return to CygNet Explorer.
Right-click in the white space of the APPS pane, then click New.
Select SUPPORT from the combo box.
Go to the folder where you downloaded and edited the .rsq.
Select the edited CxDdsEditors.rsq, then click Upload.
To update the timestamp of all .rsp and .rsq files in APPS, go to the CygNet\Utilities folder.
Double-click TouchBSS.exe.
Click the Browse button to select the correct SITE.APPS.
Type RSP in the Blob Type field, then click OK.
When the .rsp touch is complete, type RSQ in the Blob Type field, then click OK.
Return to CygNet Explorer and click File > Exit to close CygNet Explorer.
Reopen CygNet Explorer by double-clicking its shortcut on your desktop. Doing so performs version management.

The editor is now installed and version managed. Repeat the steps above for each new EIE.

3. Install the Device Template File (Remote Devices Only)

You must add a valid, remote device-specific device template file to your DDS before your new remote device EIE can be implemented.

4. Add the EIE to the Editor

To complete the installation process, confirm that the new EIE is available to your DDS, then add the new EIE to a device list in the device editor.

Using CygNet Explorer, open the Device Definition Service (DDS).
Click the appropriate device type page (Remote Devices, Comm Devices, or Import/Export Devices).
Right-click in the white space of your DDS pane, then click New <device type>.
Locate the new EIE in the Select a Device Type… list.
Double-click the highlighted device and click OK.

The new EIE is now fully installed and ready for configuration and implementation. Repeat the steps above for each new EIE.
